Post Marcon 2008

I finished my first patch ever, and it sold this weekend at the marcon 2008 art show. I was pretty proud of it, so I’ll be posting pictures later.

Marcon 2008 was a great time for me. Attendance was low, and it was quiet. Sales were terrible, general consesus was that the gas price issue is killing a lot of people. The issue is depressing, and without a good answer. T.T

I was panalist for three panals, character evolution, evolution of anime, and deep thinking/mind bending anime. I had a fantastic time, although I got frusterated in evolution of anime due to doing my research, and then the panal was taken over by the head of anime programming. But he knew what he was talking about, so I’m not too upset, looking back. I had all three Friday, and with little break.

For most of the con, I pretty much sat myself down in the anime programming room and never left. We had two voice actors this year, one of them being my favorite, Tristian McAvery. The panals themselves were for the most part well run, and lead to what I thought was interesting discussion. I throughly enjoyed manly men. And to be honest, I love my men manly.

My favorite thing was the masquerade. Sci-fi masquerades are so much better then anime con ones, and this year was so incredibly amazing. Best in show was a guitar hero skit, were the various characters were dueling with death to rescue their stage crew. And each one had a various sci-fi/fantasy theme thing to play. One was Harry Potter, one was Lord of the Rings, one was Doctor Who, you get the picture. And the guy who saved them was the asian from heros with the iron man rift.

What I bid on in the art show was a gorgeous black unicorn banner, and unfortunately, I lost it.

I got a t-shirt, a tsubasa drama cd (since it seemed one of those cases I better buy it), a comic book, and a little bronze dragon.

Overall, I also saw many old friends, and some new ones, who  I already miss.

Marcon!

I’m so sorry everyone, and this includes everyone I e-mail and such. I will be in a con this weekend, and on three panals, desperately trying to prepare for them. I’m watching so much anime at once, right now my perfect goal before Friday would be,

-Finish Haibane Reimei volume 1

-Watch a couple Princess Tutu episodes, probably from dvd 4 or 5?

-One more TTGL episode

I won’t die. x.X;;;

In other words, today was our last Wednesday night church meeting. They did this memory game, where we had to guess who the people were by quirks given. I was the ‘con’ artist. Haha. I actually thought that was cute.

It’s the DNA hillbillies!

Hillbillies make everything funny.

But unless you watched Ben 10 this weekend, you’d completely miss the reference.

So about Ben 10:Alien Force. The good thing is the series is starting to get back the spark and wittiness of of the previous three seasons. In gaining maturity, the characters seem to unfortunately stuck as flat, but otherwise, it’s back to normal. Interesting stories, and the humor returns. I’d say this was a great episode if they didn’t commit a sin.

The producers broke canon. For reals.

In today’s episode, Grandpa Max blew himself up, suppose to be a ’shocking event’. However, this was seen a long way off. Max was the figure that the children relied on, and for the children to grow and be on their own, he had to be gone. Having him gone missing wasn’t good enough, the story would have just had them obsessively looking for Max until they found him, and it wasn’t in his personality to sit on the sidelines, so they couldn’t go that route. He had to die. Sorry Max. In truth, you were an awesome character, and the series can’t be as good without you.

But as required as this was, his death breaks canon. In the previous three seasons, there have been a couple Ben 10,000 episodes. The first of these was when grown-up Gwen takes Ben and Gwen back to the future to make sure Grandpa gets an apporiate 80th birthday party. Excuse me, how do they have a party for him when he’s passed on? In all the Ben 10,000 episodes, we see Grandpa Max alive and kicking. And now he’s dead. He  must be the freaking Schrongier’s cat.

Actually, I think I know how this will be explained, that was merely what the future would have been until some disaster set it off course. But that explanation is undeniably lame.

*sigh*

The dates don’t quite match….

I’m sure there’s a reason for this, it’ll just require a little digging. But for now, I am amused.

Cockroaches…affectionate?

So here I am at Friday, still sick. Oh well.

So what was one of the best parts on my week? Getting to hold cockroaches. Seriously.

The library I voluenteer at called for help on a short notice, and I find myself helping out at a problem called, the Good, the Bad, and the Bugly. Not that it seemed the lady running it really needed help, we were just suppose to act as crowd control. And with a parent for every child, that was hardly an issue. I just attended the program like everyone else.

The lady had brought some Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches with her and were letting the children handle them. I decided to get a closer look, and this little girl just picks two up and plops them into my defenseless hands.

Luckily, I’m quite fond of inverbrates(that aren’t sucking blood out of me–see chiggers and mosquitos), so I didn’t freak or anything, but it was weird at first. One of them was very lax, and the other was crawling all over my hand. The second one came off as very affectionate, although was actually just trying to figure out his new surroundings. The sensation of being poked with atenna was a pleasent feeling, and while he dug into my skin when he was hanging upside down, it was never enough to be uncomfortable, or the pierce the skin. And while I did wash my hands afterwards, they were very clean–for cockroaches. Since these guys live in in a cage all their life, they don’t go crawling through trash and pick up disease.

I can safely say the active cockroach was a he, Mrs. Ladybug(lady in charge of the program) told us that the you can tell them apart by their coloring. And if you ever see a Madagascar Hissing Cockroach, the little spots on them are used to make a hissing noise, which they emit when agitated. It involves the air, but I don’t quite remember. The ones we handled barely hissed, being use to being handled.

It was fun. I’d think a cockroach like those would make a good pet, except they come from Madagascar. A worry would come all the concerns regarding imported pets. But it was a good experiance.

The fun contiues

So I’ve been rather quiet the past few days. Why? Easy.

Right in the head. Actually, it’s everywhere, the head is the only thing I couldn’t hit with medication. Simple wostory, my mom caught it, and I tried to take care of her Saturday.  My demise was swift.(And I’m having bad luck lately, I think).

Anyway, there’s a lot I want to type about, but this cold in my head prevents it. So I leave with parting note.

Don’t get sick. Wash your hands.

Iron Man comes out today

I guess 1000 needles have to pierce me or something. This is just one bad bug.

Anyway, Iron Man came out today. And is getting great reviews. I really want to go to see it, but I have a busy schedule, as well as no money. Seriously, I want money for Speed Racer toys too.

But I’ll definitely be catching Iron Man, in the cheap theater if I have to. It looks to be a great summer, there are so many cool movies coming out. Maybe just three I can think of–right now.

Iron Man as I just mentioned. :P Biggest playboy of the marvel universe there is, with one suit that’d make any girl into mecha squee. In matter of fact, it always has. An addition to superheo movies that looked like it was going to be either awesome or cruddy, and I’m very happy it’s awesome. The toys for this are alright, I might get an ironman figure.

Speed Racer. Okay, the show is terrible, how can the make a movie that looks so cool? It looks like it’s got some great acting, but I won’t lie, I’m in it for the cars. And the toys. Most of Hot Wheels toy for this suck royally, but there’s a car I want.

WALL-E. OMG, I will see this as soon as it’s in theaters, no question about it. Hopefully on opening day. This is going to be freaking fantasic. The animation is fantasic. I also can’t wait for plush WALL-E
